While the beginning of this anime is confusing and threadbare in its plot, I did decide to push on and watch into the mid-section of the anime, where you really get to get a good impression of Masa(mu)ne and Ri(ho)ko Amaha.
The story paints a portrait of a lone, resilient mother who does her best to give her daughter a fulfilling life, even if she herself is cursed to endless combat by the Witchblade which has implanted itself in her wrist.
The anime, when delved into deep enough, is highly moving and emotional, every episode deals with a different issue of parenting or love. The Excon threat simply deals to push the story along until the introduction of the Sisters and other threats.
It deals with the home-scene of the Hotel that Masane and Riko live in, as well as the corporate affair of Takayama, an awkward eventual lover of Masane who is a Head Director for Jouhji Industries, a weapons exporter specializing in bio-weapons, such as the Excons (Or I-Weapons) and manages the operations of Jouhji’s special weapons division.
Some minor characters on the side are Chou; an old pervert who befriends the pair during the early episodes, Naomi; A very shy Fortune Teller, And a few others that I can’t recall at the moment because I can smell something delicious, will finish this off later. <3
